Oogie Boogie Bash 2024

If you’re visiting Disneyland during Halloween Time, then you should definitely consider attending Oogie Boogie Bash as part of your trip. There are experiences at this after hours event that you can’t find anywhere else and if you’re a big Halloween lover like I am, then you definitely do not want to miss out on this party!

***This post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase using these links, I may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you! ***

Before we get into all the details about Oogie Boogie Bash, if you’re hoping to visit the parks you need to book your trip with my travel partner Get Away Today. They will always get you the best prices possible on tickets and hotels as well as the best customer service to make sure your trip is absolute perfect. You can book your ticket/hotel package, purchase tickets, or find low rates on hotels at Get Away Today’s website or by calling 1-855-GET-AWAY. And to make it even better, tell them that I sent you or use code RAMBLING10 for additional money off of your Disneyland package! You can find more information about visiting Disneyland during Halloween Time here.

Now, let’s get into everything you can expect, what’s included, and everything you need to know about this popular after hours event!

What is Oogie Boogie Bash?

So you’ve probably heard of this party before, but what exactly is it? Oogie Boogie is Disneyland’s big Halloween party that takes place on select nights in September and October. This is a separate ticket event that happens in California Adventure beginning at 6 pm and running until 11 pm, but entry is allowed starting at 3 pm with valid Oogie Boogie tickets. Because you are able to get into California Adventure a few hours before the event, I would recommend doing Oogie Boogie on a day you are not already planning on visiting the parks. I would suggest doing this the day you arrive or doing it on a day you don’t have theme park reservations to maximize your time in the parks while still saving you money.

Oogie Boogie Bash is a limited capacity event so you can enjoy shorter wait times and a more open park during the event. Tickets must be purchased separately as they are not included with your general theme park admission. I will talk dates, prices, and ticket sales dates a little bit later, but just make sure you get those Oogie Boogie tickets purchased separately if you are wanting to attend. If you are not planning to attend this event, I would recommend getting a park hopper pass for the days this event is happening or make your reservations for Disneyland that day where you can still experience lots of fun Halloween Time offerings because all guests not attending Oogie Boogie Bash will be kicked out of California Adventure at 6 PM on event nights.

When you arrive at the gates to enter the park, you will be given a wrist band, a trick or treat bag, and an event map with everything you need to know. If you are already in California Adventure before 3 PM, you don’t have to go all the way back to the entrance to get your wrist band and goodies, you can head over by the entrance of Avenger’s Campus by Grizzly Falls and scan into the event and get everything you need.

What is included?

This family friendly event has food and beverage offerings, treat trails, dance parties, shows and entertainment, photo ops, shorter wait times for attractions, spooky decor, rare character sightings, and more! Costumes are encouraged, so make sure you pack your best Halloween looks, just make sure you follow the costume guidelines.

You will also receive all Photo Pass photos taken during the event, which is included in your event ticket. Take advantage of all of the photo ops and photo pass photographers throughout the park and download all of the photos captured during the event, free of charge! You can download these photos as many times as you’d like for up to 45 days after they are taken.

Treat Trails

This is trick-or-treating at a new level. Each treat trail is themed to fit the villain that will greet you at the end. There are classic villains as well as new villains along these trails and of course, you will leave the treat trails with a bag full of delicious candy. You will be given a trick-or-treat bag when you arrive at the event, but they aren’t big enough for all the candy you will collect, so you will want to bring a large empty bag or backpack to put all your goodies in as cast members will put the candy directly in your bag.

Here are the treat trails and locations for the 2024 Oogie Boogie Bash:

  • Ernesto de la Cruz at the Hyperion Theater Courtyard (next to Guardians)
  • Judge Doom at Grizzly Peak Airfield (near Soarin’)
  • Sid on Pixar Pier (next to Bing Bong’s)
  • NEW! DR. Doofenshmirtz at the Disney Theater in Hollywood Land (between Carthay Circle and Off the Page)
  • NEW! Hades at the Hollywood Backlot Stage (by Monsters Inc.)
  • Oogie Boogie in the Animation Building (in Hollywood Land)
  • Madame Mim at the Bountiful Valley Hideaway (between Carthay Circle and Avenger’s Campus)
  • Agatha Harkness in the Ancient Sanctum (in Avenger’s Campus)
  • okai from Big Hero Six in San Fransokyo Square
  • Non immersive (no villains, just treats) treat trails in Paradise Gardens Park (World of Color viewing are), Cars (by Radiator Springs Racers) and on Buena Vista Street

Villains Grove

The highlight of Oogie Boogie has to be Villain’s Grove. Redwood Creek is transformed to transport you into the realm of your favorite villains. This fully immerse experience will open as soon as night falls, usually around 7:30ish. This is a very popular experience so the line may get long, but it does tend to move quickly This area comes alive with lights, sounds, and special effects to resemble the worlds of:

  • Frollo’s Sanctuary – Head into an otherworldly cathedral of trees infused with incense smells and chanting voices.
  • Maleficent’s Will – Roam through a region replete with eerie ravens, thorn-spiked vines and a seemingly spellbound waterfall of cascading color!
  • Queen of Hearts Garden – Wander ‘round a charming garden of roses that paint themselves red right before your eyes!
  • Scar’s Elephant Graveyard – Descend into a vast expanse that echoes with hyena laughter!
  • Dr. Facilier’s Friends on the Other Side – Summoned by the great beyond, shadowy hands and colorful spells lure Guests deeper into the grove’s darkest corners.
  • The Wicked Queen’s Lightning Forest – See the forest come alive as an electrifying storm flashes from branch to branch.
  • Home of the Wisps – Watch these winged caretakers guide Guests to safety amid a magical bastion of endless light.
  • Dawn – Escape in the nick of time as flickering lanterns lead the way toward a brilliant sunrise and the conclusion of this mythical trip!

Frightfully Fun Parade

This parade exclusively for Oogie Boogie Bash is a fan favorite! See the Headless Horseman, your favorite characters dressed in their Halloween Costumes, beloved characters from Nightmare Before Christmas, the Hitchhiking Ghosts, and of course, all the Disney villains! Because crowds are low, you don’t need to stake out seats super early, but you should try to grab a spot about 20-30 minutes before the parade starts. The route begins in Paradise Gardens near Goofy’s Sky School and ends over in Hollywood Land by the Hyperion Theater. From start to finish, it’s about a 30-40 minute parade. There are two different parade showings, usually at 7:50 and 10:05 so decide which of the shows you’d rather attend.

If you want reserved seating for the Frightfully Fun Parade, check out the Oogie Boogie Dessert Party where you can enjoy treats and beverages while watching the parade from a table. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance and are only available two times per night. The cost is $89 per guest and is paid at the time of booking.

Character Meet and Greets

You fill find all sorts of characters throughout the park during this event. There were a few photo ops last year in 2023 as well as some non character photo ops as well including:

  • Bruno from Encanto at the Grizzly Peak Water Wheel
  • Various pixar characters on Pixar Pier
  • Kingdom Hearts Mickey & Friends in the World of Color viewing area
  • Radiator Springs residents in Cars Land
  • Minnie, Daisy, and Clarabelle as the Sanderson Sisters in Hollywood Land
  • Various rare characters come and go at the Buena Vista Street fountain in front of Carthay Circle like the Captain Hook, Hans from Frozen, Pain & Panic from Hercules, and more!

Costumes

Guests are allowed, and even encouraged, to wear their best Halloween costumes to Oogie Boogie Bash. Whether your costume is simple or elaborate, this is the only chance you have as an adult to dress up in your Halloween best! While costumes are encouraged, there are a few rules you need to abide by. Here are the guidelines laid out by Disney about costumes during the event:

“Disney reserves the right to deny admission or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other Guests. All Guests may dress as their favorite character during the event, but must follow these guidelines as determined solely by Disney:

  • All Guests may dress as their favorite character, but may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other Guests.
  • Costumes must be family-friendly and may not be obstructive, offensive, objectionable or violent.
  • Costumes may not contain any items that resemble (or could easily be mistaken for) an actual weapon.
  • Costumes may not contain sharp/pointed objects or materials that may accidentally strike another Guest.
  • Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening.
  • Costumes may not reach or drag on the ground (e.g., full-length Princess dresses).

For Guests Ages 13 and Younger

  • Costumes and some costume masks may be worn as long as the entire face isn’t covered and eyes are visible.
  • Face coverings may be required; please see the current policy regarding face coverings.

For Guests Ages 14 and Older

  • Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.
  • Themed T-shirts, blouses, sweatshirts and hats are permitted.
  • Acceptable accessories include transparent wings, plastic light sabers, toy swords and tutus.
  • Headwear may be worn as long as it does not cover the face.
  • Costume masks of any kind may not be worn.
  • Face coverings may be required; please see the current policy regarding face coverings.”

A few tips to make your event easier

  • Link your Oogie Boogie ticket to your Disneyland account before arrival to speed up the process
  • Arrive at California Adventure prior to the event for “mix-in” time which starts at 3 pm so you are in line and ready to go when the gates open to event guests
  • Try to ride all the rides you want during the mix-in period before the event starts, or wait until later in the evening after you’ve experienced everything else you want to do
  • Prioritize the special offerings the event has to offer like shows, treat trails, Villains Grove, and things like that over rides. Rides can be done another day, but you only have one shot to experience everything Oogie Boogie Bash has to offer.
  • Grab something to eat around 5 before the event starts so you have plenty of room for the event exclusive treats they have to offer
  • You can get into lines before the event starts, so take advantage of that to reduce your wait times right off the bat. Meet and greets and photo ops are the best place to get in line early because their lines do not move quickly.
  • Sometimes when you go down a treat trail the villain may not be there. If they’re taking a break, just swing back around later to try to catch them.
  • Villains Grove is the best in complete darkness, so wait until later in the evening to do this, the best time is at the very end of the night when crowds start to die down.
  • Pay attention to wait times before you hop in line, you don’t want to start your event waiting in line for 90 minutes for one experience
  • Wear weather appropriate costumes. September and even October can still be really hot at Disneyland so dress in smart and regardless of what costume you are wearing, prioritize wearing comfortable shoes

Let’s be honest, Disneyland can get really busy Let’s be honest, Disneyland can get really busy and sometimes there’s just too many people, so here are some of my favorite spots to escape the crowds at Disneyland:

- Tom Sawyer Island
- Seating area behind Thunder Mountain
- Seating Area next to Ship to Shore Marketplace
- Pathway behind Harbour Galley
- Back corner of Bayou Country
- Back corner of Toontown
- Seating area by Troubadour Tavern and the Fantasyland Theatre
- Benches at the exit of Space Mountain
- Seating area behind Edelweiss Snacks
- Stairs across from “it’s a small world”

Other locations that can be hit or miss:
- Fantasy fair area (at certain times of the day)
- Tables next to the Casey Jr Circus train (not during meal times)
- Snow White’s Wishing Well (can be hit and miss with character meet and greets)
- Mark Twain River Boat- if there’s not a ton of people on your sailing
- Second floor of Golden Horseshoe- avoid mealtimes and it’s usually great, you don’t have to eat to go in there
- Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough- you’ll have to downstairs and if there’s several groups doing it at the same time, you can feel a little cramped in the hall ways
- Main Street Cinema is usually a great spot, but has become a little more popular with the new show for the 70th
- Main Street Opera House- this is a great spot if you aren’t in there right before a show is about to start, as people will sit around and wait to be let in
- Adventureland Treehouse- usually not too busy but not a lot of space if it is
- Tiki Room outdoor seating- if there’s several groups isn’t a show soon, this spot can sometimes be pretty empty

Take whatever time you need 💛 Things in the wo Take whatever time you need 💛

Things in the world feel heavy and scary. Make sure you’re taking care of yourself and your mental health.
24 years since that awful day. I still remember ho 24 years since that awful day. I still remember how I felt that day, even as a young child, and that will always stick with me. The fear. The grief. The uncertainty. The devastation.

But another thing I will always remember is the good that still existed, even in such a dark time in the weeks and months that followed afterwards. I remember the helpers. The good deed doers. The ones who reached out to those who needed it. Who risked their lives, who put aside their differences and loved each other. I remember the unity that followed that day. And it was beautiful. Was it perfect? No of course not. We’re human, and there will always be error. But it was still amazing to see people being good to each other even after such a horrific event.

I so desperately want to see just a glimpse of that unity again. Not just for our country, but the entire world, to try to work together to bring about something positive in the face of such horrible events that seem to constantly be happening.

Our world has descended into unnecessary violence, hatred, and intolerance. Is this what we want for us? Is this what we want for our children? Is this a future we are okay with?

Tragedy has a weird way of putting things into perspective. Helping us realize what’s important. Helping us see what changes need to be made. And it feels like recently, everywhere you look is one tragedy after another. When are we going to realize that during times like this, we have to come together instead of becoming more divided?

It’s down to ALL of us to be better and make our country and our world a better place. Even if we can’t make huge changes on our own, we can each do our part in our own lives to be more tolerant and understanding, loving and accepting, and doing what we can to bring about change. Through it all, be a good deed doer. Be a helper. Be willing to hear and learn from others, even if you disagree. Be willing to voice your opinion and strive for change. Be loving. Just be a good person.

If we can make it through that horrible event 24 years ago, we can surely find a way to make it through the dark times we’re walking through now. But it takes all of us. Together.

Drop any questions you have in the comments!
I get this question in some way or another pretty I get this question in some way or another pretty frequently. As my handle implies, I am an introverted person, and yes the crowds at Disneyland make me very anxious at times, though not for that reason.

My anxiety in crowds at Disneyland began almost 10 years ago when I experienced a very sudden and severe onset of OCD a week before I left for a Disneyland trip. And unfortunately, my OCD is germ based and involves a severe phobia of vomiting. Seeing it, hearing it, experiencing it myself, doesn’t matter. Even if someone looks sick will trigger it.

And that first trip was so hard. My hands were raw from how much I had been washing them leading up to that trip, hoping I wouldn’t get sick and miss my trip. I was lathering my hands in all sorts of creams and wore gloves to sleep to try to offset the only physical manifestation of my inner struggle. But every photo from that trip bears that reminder of how bad I was doing. You can see in these photos I frequently have my hands tucked up near my body or clasping them together to avoid touching anything I didn’t have to, trying to make myself as small as possible to avoid getting sick. I was analyzing everything around me constantly, every person near me, avoiding every garbage can, not touching any surfaces, making extremely frequent visits to the bathroom to wash my hands to avoid catching anything. It sucked.

Fast forward almost a decade and I’m happy to say I’ve made a lot of progress, but those same fears and behaviors have stuck around. I’m still super anxious at Disneyland, even though I love it so much, I cannot turn off that part of my brain. But luckily, being an introvert has paid off and helped me naturally find some ways to alleviate that anxiety and have a more enjoyable time in the parks. And going forward, I’d love to share what works for me in the hopes that if you need help too, it can benefit you as well.

Whether your an introvert trying to make the parks more manageable, or you too struggle with mental health challenges that make it harder to enjoy the park fully, ask any questions you have in the comments and I’d be happy to share what I can 💛

Wanting to plan a visit to Disneyland sometime bet Wanting to plan a visit to Disneyland sometime between now and the end of 2026? You’re going to want to book NOW. Here’s why:

1️⃣ Prices are going to go up. Every year, usually in October, Disney raises their ticket prices. Booking now locks in the lower ticket price so even if you aren’t visiting until next year, you’ll still be paying the cheaper 2025 ticket prices instead of the higher 2026 prices that are coming.
2️⃣ Most availability for hotels. The sooner you book, the easier it will be for you to get into the hotel and room option that you want without them being booked out.
3️⃣ If you are wanting to stay at a Disney Resort Hotel, you will want to visit by January 4, 2026 so you can take advantage of early entry. Starting January 5, 2026 Disney has announced that they will no longer offer the perk of early entry, even if you are staying at a Disney hotel. If you’re wanting that perk, book for 2025 before it’s gone.
4️⃣ Right now, my travel partners @getawaytoday are offering Adults at Kids prices tickets on all 3 day or longer tickets, which is also based on the current 2025 prices, so you’ll be saving as much money as possible on your tickets!

Yep you heard that right, early entry is soon to b Yep you heard that right, early entry is soon to be a thing of the past at the Disneyland Resort, starting January 5, 2026 early entry will no longer be offered for guests staying at a Disneyland resort hotel. Instead, each guest will receive one lightning lane that can be used on any lightning lane multipass attraction.

Based on the wording on the Disneyland website, that sounds like ONE lightning lane for your entire stay and no I don’t think that will be valid for Rise of the Resistance or Radiator Springs Racers since they are not included in Lightning lane multipass.

Any Disneyland resort hotel stays between now and January 4, 2026 will still be able to take advantage of early entry on these schedule dates:

Disneyland Park: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
Disney California Adventure Park: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday

Tell me your thoughts in the comments! Do you think this is smart or a bad move? Will you stay at a Disneyland Resort hotel now that this perk is gone?
If you’re visiting the Disneyland Resort between If you’re visiting the Disneyland Resort between now and Halloween and are not attending Oogie Boogie Bash, you need to know these dates!

If you are planning to visit California Adventure on any of these dates, the park will close at 6 pm to all non ticketed guests, so if you have single park per day tickets, I would suggest you change your park reservations so you are in DCA on non event nights and do Disneyland on any dates that have Oogie Boogie Bash. If you have park hopper tickets, I would recommend starting your day in DCA and then around 3 pm when the mix in hours start for those with Oogie Boogie Bash tickets, park hop over to Disneyland and finish out your day there.

If you have any questions about Oogie Boogie Bash or how that may impact your trip if you aren’t attending, drop those in the comments!

With Lightning Lane Multipass, you can only ride e With Lightning Lane Multipass, you can only ride each attraction one time, BUT during Halloween Time there is an exception to that rule!

From now until October 31, if you purchase Lightning lane multipass you can get a Lightning lane for the normal Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout and then also get one for Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters After Dark!

To do it, just make sure you get a return time for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakfout that is BEFORE 2 pm. Then the attraction will close for an hour and reopen at 3 pm, then you want to get a return time ant time after 3 pm for Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters After Dark.

On normal days, this attraction is typically open until 10 pm, but on Oogie Boogie Bash nights it will only be available until 6pm, so if you’re in DCA on an OBB event night, you will only have from 3-6 pm to get on to Monsters After Dark.
You heard that right! Guardians of the Galaxy: Mis You heard that right! Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout will now switch over to Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters after Dark starting TODAY in California Adventure!

We had a solid chunk of the day where we couldn’t use our lightning lanes due to plans we already had, so we could have easily booked more return times on a normal day without those plans and reservations. This was also a day in the park that was not super busy so we were able to get on a lot more things compared to the day before when it was busy and we got more use out of lightning lane multipass.
