Everyone loves a Mickey shaped treat, and one of the most iconic Mickey treats are the soft pretzels you can find at various carts around the parks!
You just can’t beat the soft, warm inside with the golden brown outside and bits of salt. And whether you prefer them plain, in a dipping sauce, or stuffed with cream cheese, Disney pretzels are an absolute staple when visiting the parks.
So let’s bring a taste of Disney to your own home with my Mickey pretzels recipe. They’re super easy, quick, and not to mention delicious! Let’s get started!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
To make the pretzels, you’ll need:
» Flour
» Sugar
» Salt
» Vegetable oil
» Yeast
» Baking soda
» Butter
» Kosher salt
TO MAKE THE PRETZELS
In a small bowl, combine the yeast and 1 1/4 cups warm water and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.
While the yeast is activating, in a large bowl combine the flour, sugar, and salt stir until completely combined.
Next, add the yeast and oil to the dry ingredients and mix until it forms a dough. If the dough is too dry, add a teaspoon of water at a time or if it’s too wet, add a teaspoon of flour at a time until it reaches the right consistency.
Place the dough on a clean, floured surface and knead until the dough is smooth, about 5-7 minutes. Once it’s smooth, place it in a large greased bowl and cover with a greased piece of plastic wrap. Allow the dough to rise on the counter for about an hour or until it has doubled in size.
Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 450° while you shape your pretzels.
Now you want to roll your dough into thin ropes and begin shaping your pretzels. If you want to make a Mickey shaped pretzel, start by making a large circle and pull the bottom down just a bit to make a head shape.
Next roll out two shorter ropes and shape into circles and attach to the top of the larger circle for the ears.
Roll out another circle and place inside the big head circle. This will create Mickey’s nose and mouth.
Lastly take two short ropes and attach to the inside circle to create Mickey’s eyes. Make sure all the pieces of dough are well attached before continuing. You can wet your finger to help them stick together better.
If you don’t want to take the time to make this Mickey shape, you could do one large circle and two smaller circles for the ears or even just do a traditional pretzel shape.
Next, in an 8×8 pan or large bowl, dissolve the baking soda in 4 cups of warm water and stir until mostly dissolved. I recommend using a pan because it’s flat and will be easier to completely soak your pretzels in. Using a spatula, carefully pick up your pretzel and dunk it in the baking soda water mixture.
Place the pretzels on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet and sprinkle with kosher salt. Then put the pretzels in the oven and bake for about 8 minutes until the tops are golden brown.
Once you remove them from the oven, brush them with butter while they’re still warm and, if you like salty pretzels, top with more kosher salt.
And there you have it! Delicious, soft, Mickey shaped pretzels just like the parks!

Mickey Pretzels
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 4 cups warm water
- Kosher salt
- Butter
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast packet in 1 1/4 cup warm water and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, add the flour, sugar, and salt and mix until well combined.
- Add the oil and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. If it’s too dry, add water 1 teaspoon at a time. If it’s too wet, add 1 teaspoon of flour at a time until you’ve reached the right consistency.
- Put the dough on a clean, floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Once the dough is smooth, place it in a large greased bowl and cover with a greased piece of plastic wrap. Allow the dough to rise on the counter for about an hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450° and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
- In an 8×8 pan or large bowl, combine the baking soda in 4 cups of warm water and stir until dissolved. Set aside.
- Remove the dough from the bowl and on a lightly floured surface roll into thin ropes. Don’t make them too thick or they won’t bake correctly. Shape the ropes into Mickey, a traditional pretzel shape, or whatever shape you’d like.
- Once your pretzels are shaped, carefully pick them up with a spatula and dip them in the baking soda/water bath, then place on the cookie sheet and sprinkle with kosher salt.
- Bake for about 8 minutes until the pretzels are browned. Remove from oven and brush with butter and top with additional kosher salt if you’d like.
