Mickey Pretzels Recipe

Everyone loves a Mickey shaped treat, and one of the most iconic Mickey treats are the soft pretzels you can find at various carts around the parks!

You just can’t beat the soft, warm inside with the golden brown outside and bits of salt. And whether you prefer them plain, in a dipping sauce, or stuffed with cream cheese, Disney pretzels are an absolute staple when visiting the parks.

So let’s bring a taste of Disney to your own home with my Mickey pretzels recipe. They’re super easy, quick, and not to mention delicious! Let’s get started!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

To make the pretzels, you’ll need:

» Flour

» Sugar

» Salt

» Vegetable oil

» Yeast

» Baking soda

» Butter

» Kosher salt

TO MAKE THE PRETZELS

In a small bowl, combine the yeast and 1 1/4 cups warm water and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.

While the yeast is activating, in a large bowl combine the flour, sugar, and salt stir until completely combined.

Next, add the yeast and oil to the dry ingredients and mix until it forms a dough. If the dough is too dry, add a teaspoon of water at a time or if it’s too wet, add a teaspoon of flour at a time until it reaches the right consistency.

Place the dough on a clean, floured surface and knead until the dough is smooth, about 5-7 minutes. Once it’s smooth, place it in a large greased bowl and cover with a greased piece of plastic wrap. Allow the dough to rise on the counter for about an hour or until it has doubled in size.

Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 450° while you shape your pretzels.

Now you want to roll your dough into thin ropes and begin shaping your pretzels. If you want to make a Mickey shaped pretzel, start by making a large circle and pull the bottom down just a bit to make a head shape.

Next roll out two shorter ropes and shape into circles and attach to the top of the larger circle for the ears.

Roll out another circle and place inside the big head circle. This will create Mickey’s nose and mouth.

Lastly take two short ropes and attach to the inside circle to create Mickey’s eyes. Make sure all the pieces of dough are well attached before continuing. You can wet your finger to help them stick together better.

If you don’t want to take the time to make this Mickey shape, you could do one large circle and two smaller circles for the ears or even just do a traditional pretzel shape.

Next, in an 8×8 pan or large bowl, dissolve the baking soda in 4 cups of warm water and stir until mostly dissolved. I recommend using a pan because it’s flat and will be easier to completely soak your pretzels in. Using a spatula, carefully pick up your pretzel and dunk it in the baking soda water mixture.

Place the pretzels on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet and sprinkle with kosher salt. Then put the pretzels in the oven and bake for about 8 minutes until the tops are golden brown.

Once you remove them from the oven, brush them with butter while they’re still warm and, if you like salty pretzels, top with more kosher salt.

And there you have it! Delicious, soft, Mickey shaped pretzels just like the parks!

Mickey Pretzels

Bring a Disney park favorite home with this Mickey soft pretzel recipe!
Prep Time1 hour hr 15 minutes mins
Cook Time8 minutes mins
Course: Dessert
Keyword: Copycat Disney Recipe, Disney Recipe, Disney Treats, Disneyland Recipe, Mickey Pretzel
Servings: 6 large Mickey pretzels
Author: Jess

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 4 cups warm water
  • Kosher salt
  • Butter

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast packet in 1 1/4 cup warm water and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, add the flour, sugar, and salt and mix until well combined.
  • Add the oil and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. If it’s too dry, add water 1 teaspoon at a time. If it’s too wet, add 1 teaspoon of flour at a time until you’ve reached the right consistency.
  • Put the dough on a clean, floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Once the dough is smooth, place it in a large greased bowl and cover with a greased piece of plastic wrap. Allow the dough to rise on the counter for about an hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 450° and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  • In an 8×8 pan or large bowl, combine the baking soda in 4 cups of warm water and stir until dissolved. Set aside.
  • Remove the dough from the bowl and on a lightly floured surface roll into thin ropes. Don’t make them too thick or they won’t bake correctly. Shape the ropes into Mickey, a traditional pretzel shape, or whatever shape you’d like.
  • Once your pretzels are shaped, carefully pick them up with a spatula and dip them in the baking soda/water bath, then place on the cookie sheet and sprinkle with kosher salt.
  • Bake for about 8 minutes until the pretzels are browned. Remove from oven and brush with butter and top with additional kosher salt if you’d like.

Notes

• This recipe will make 6 large Mickey pretzels or about a dozen smaller pretzels.
• Store the pretzels at room temperature in a loosely covered container so they don’t go soggy.
• If the tops of your pretzels go a little soggy, put them on a cookie sheet and broil them for a minute or two until the tops are crisped and brush with butter and add salt if needed before eating.

I hope you enjoy making this classic Disney treat in your own home! Make sure to share with your Disney loving friends and save this recipe so you can make it anytime you want!

As you go around the curve, turn your body so you’re staring him down the whole time, this makes this corner feel way more intense and so much more fun! You’ll get the best results from the goat trick if you are in the very back of the train, row 15 is the pristine spot to do it!

There’s a lot of chat online about if Blue Bayou There’s a lot of chat online about if Blue Bayou is worth it or not, my opinion? I usually think it is.

I’ve been many times and have had lots of different dishes from steak, chicken, and lamb and I’ve enjoyed them all. My last visit I had prime rib which I did not like and did not think it was worth it and I would also pass on the assorted macarons, but overall, I like Blue Bayou. The ambiance alone is amazing , I highly recommend their chicken gumbo starter, as well as the creme brûlée tart if that is offered as a dessert!

Blue Bayou offers lunch and dinner, with slight variations to the menu based on what meal you have. Blue Bayou does serve alcohol and also offers a Fantasmic! dining package option that will get you reserved viewing for that nights show. These dining packages are only offered on dates Fantasmic is actually showing, and the seating area is front and center for the show.

Blue Bayou is very popular and reservations can be hard to come by. You’ll want to be on the Disneyland app or website at 6 am pst 60 days before the date you want to visit to book your reservation, because they will book out in a matter of minutes. It is also much harder to get tables for large groups, so I recommend breaking your group into groups of 4 or less and book multiple tables using different Disney accounts. If you aren’t able to get a reservation, keep checking back as people may cancel their reservations, and if you still can’t get a reservation before your trip, head to the restaurant that morning or get on the Disneyland app to join the walk up list. It isn’t a guarantee, but it still gives you a chance to get in.

If you have questions about Blue Bayou, or about getting reservations, drop them in the comments! And if you have tried Blue Bayou, tell me what you thought!

I love that they offer nationwide shipping for their delicious macarons so you can have a little taste from Disneyland anytime you want! They come packaged so well and taste just as fresh and delicious as they do straight from the stand at Downtown Disney!

Let’s talk park strategy ↴ When it comes to D Let’s talk park strategy ↴

When it comes to Disneyland, those first few morning hours are critical for setting the tone for your day and knocking out as much as you can before crowds build! So let’s cover some strategies and when they may be best to use:

MY TOP PICK- ADVENTURELAND
✨ Head LEFT into Adventureland and do Indiana Jones first thing. Then hit up surrounding rides like Jungle Cruise, Big Thunder Mountain, then head to Pirates, Haunted Mansion, and head up to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Maybe grab a mint julep and beignets too 😉 This is my go to strategy when doing Disneyland!

TOMORROWLAND
✨ My next favorite strategy is going RIGHT into Tomorrowland and heading straight for Space Mountain. Then hit up Star Tours, and Matterhorn. If you have kids, mix in some Autopia and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. And of course grab a cream cheese pretzel for breakfast 😉

FANTASYLAND
✨ My pick if you have young kids, go STRAIGHT through the castle into Fantasyland. Knock out all those Fantasyland rides early before it gets too crowded! Try to do this on a day that Disneyland is not offering early entry, because the lines will already be building by the time you get there if it’s an early entry day. And stop by Maurice’s Treats for a refreshing Boysen Apple Freeze 😉

TOONTOWN
✨ My pick if you have kids who want to meet Mickey and Minnie! Head off to the right side of the castle, all the way back to Toontown and get on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Then hit some of the play areas, Mickey & Minnie’s House, grab some Goody Good Donuts from Cafe Daisy 😉 then do “it’s a small world” on your way out of Toontown.

❌ My one DO NOT do item is rope drop Rise of the Resistance. Yes it CAN pay off, but it can also have a huge line, long wait time, or may not even be open when the park opens. To me, not worth the gamble. Use your morning hours to do other attractions and hit Rise later in the evening, right before it closes.

Tell me how you start your Disneyland days, and if you’ve got park strategy questions, drop them in the comments!
